In a series of regular features, we explore ways the Every Body Walk! video series, combined with Community Commons tools, can inspire Americans to get up and moving.
In this introductory video, George C. Halvorson, Chairman and CEO of Kaiser Permanente, delivers some very encouraging statistics about the benefits of walking. “There is almost nothing that we can do for our own personal health, that creates more benefit, than walking,” says Halvorson.
Halvorson states in the video that women who walk have a remarkable 43% reduction in the risk of stroke. Use this Community Commons Starter Map on stroke mortality rates to zoom in on your community and see how many lives can be saved be encouraging women to walk thirty minutes per day, five days a week.
Every Body Walk! is a campaign aimed at getting Americans up and moving. It is powered by Kaiser Permanente and works in collaboration with partners around the nation. America Walks serves as the backbone organization for the Every Body Walk! collaborative.
