Health advocacy groups are being asked to sign on to a letter of support for the swift passage of the proposed updates to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
The Center for Digital Democracy and Common Sense Media, partners on this campaign, see COPPA as health issue because personal online data of children is what companies use to retarget them with food marketing–including junk food marketing. Forty groups have already signed on, including the American Heart Association, Center for Science in the Public Interest, Public Health Institue, and Voices for American’s Children. Other organizations can add their name to the list by contacting [email protected].
Concerned individuals and parents can also a petition to send a message to the FTC that they strongly support their work to update the rules.
